The World’s First Non-Metal Sustainable Battery – Serhii Kaminskyi
Changing how we power the planet with SorbiForce
- August 4, 2024
The energy transition demands more batteries, but there’s a downside. Battery materials are in short supply and extraction technologies are often environmentally degrading. What if there was a more sustainable option? Serhii Kaminskyi might have the solution. As the founder and CEO of SorbiForce, Serhii is working on clean battery technology that is changing how we think about energy storage.
In this episode of Energy Superheroes, Serhii describes how his team is developing the world’s first non-metal, 100% recyclable battery:
- Unlike traditional batteries that use metals like lithium, cobalt, or nickel, SorbiForce’s batteries utilize ultra-porous carbon derived from agriculture waste, water, and salt from desalination plants. This approach promotes sustainability and reduces reliance on finite resources.
- SorbiForce boasts a team of leading scientists from Ukraine. The team relocated to Phoenix, Arizona to make SorbiForce a reality. The company is currently supported by the U.S Department of State and Google.
- SorbiForce states that their battery can be the most cost-effective on the planet, potentially reaching a final cost as low as $30 per kilowatt hour through innovative sourcing of raw materials.
