Mark Zuckerberg recently announced Meta Compute, Meta’s AI infrastructure initiative.
The purpose? To drastically build out infrastructure and energy capacity needed to support data center and AI growth.
According to Zukerberg, Meta plans to build tens of gigawatts just this decade. Eventually, that number could hit hundreds of gigawatts. Having the right infrastructure and supplies is key to being successful when it comes to AI.
“How we engineer, invest, and partner to build this infrastructure will become a strategic advantage,” stated Zuckerberg. More and more, we are seeing tech giants directly involved with the power side of data center development.
Meta has appointed three people to direct the new initiative. This includes Santosh Janardhan, the company’s head of global infrastructure; Daniel Gross, who recently joined the company and is the co-founder of Safe Superintelligence; and Dina Powell McCormick, a former Trump administration official who just joined Meta as the company’s president and vice chairman.
