Tokyo Gas to Invest Half of $2.3B Budget in U.S.

Tokyo Gas is planning to invest over half of its overseas 3-year, 350 billion yen ($2.3 billion) budget in the U.S. alone.

Tokyo Gas is Japan’s top city gas provider. This overseas investment is part of a larger 1.3 trillion yen investment plan.

According to CEO Shinichi Sasayama, “North America is our top priority in our overseas strategy.” This is largely in response to rising domestic demand thanks to energy intensive industries like data centers, and increasing global demand for LNG exports.

Tokyo Gas has been increasing its U.S. presence over the past several years, including buying Rockcliff Energy in Texas and Louisiana in 2023, and purchasing a 70% stake in east Texas gas assets from Chevron in 2025.

It’s clear that the U.S. gas industry is continuing to grow on both a domestic and global scale, and foreign companies and governments are taking notice.
