The Rainey Generating Station in Iva, South Carolina, is set to expand its capacity by 180 MW through a combined cycle conversion project.
This initiative, approved by Santee Cooper’s board of directors in collaboration with Central Electric Power Cooperative, involves installing two heat recovery steam generators and a steam turbine generator to capture waste heat from existing units, thereby generating additional electricity.
Construction is expected to take about three years, pending approval from the Public Service Commission of South Carolina.
This project will enhance power supply reliability for South Carolina by utilizing existing infrastructure to add capacity without increasing fuel costs or emissions, aligning with commitments to affordability, sustainability, and efficiency.
