A new behind-the-meter data center with up to 5GW has been proposed near Laredo, Texas.
The project is being pitched by Energy Abundance Development Corporation and has been dubbed Data City. If approved, the first 300MW will come online in 2026.
The facility plans to ultimately run on hydrogen, provided by another Energy Abundance Development Corporation project, Hydrogen City. However, that site won’t be ready until at least 2028.
Until then, Data City will be powered by a combination of wind, solar, and natural gas.
Developers are optimistic, claiming that “this will be the birthplace of AGI”.
