LC3 Cement Solution Sparks Global Interest

A new cement solution known as Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) could help drive down global emissions. Consisting of clinker, calcined clay, limestone, and gypsum, LC3 promises up to a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional cements.

Considering that cement is a major component of concrete, and that concrete accounts for 8% of global CO2 emissions, LC3 could be beneficial in decreasing emissions. LC3 is also cheaper to produce, with cost savings of up to 25%. 

The cement alternative originated from research out of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

As LC3 gains global traction, its improved durability, cost-effectiveness, and lower carbon footprint could set new benchmarks for the industry.
