Lazard’s 18th annual Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE+) report is out, and it’s full of important insights.
One of the biggest takeaways is the continued cost-competitiveness of renewables. In spite of challenges, renewable energy still stands as a financially smart and speedy option for new-build generation. We can expect to continue to see its growth across the country.
However, renewables alone cannot provide the reliability and resilience our power grid demands. In light of growing data centers and the reshoring of manufacturing, we need much more robust energy systems. This is something only dispatchable sources like natural gas can achieve.
We need to speed up natural gas development, and fast. Diversification is a necessary part of a sustainable energy future.
