Goldman Sachs Co-Leads Financing for 5 GW Site in Texas

Goldman Sachs is co-leading financing for 5 gigawatt power sites in Texas.

According to developer GridFreeAI, Goldman alongside real estate advisory Newmark Group Inc. is raising funds for modular natural gas-fired generation. The goal? To power South Dallas One, a data center cluster.

Power will be supplied directly to the data centers, cutting out the grid entirely. Already, land for 2 out of 3 sites has been secured, and power is expected to come online in less than 2 years. This is much faster than if South Dallas One were connected to the grid.

Many developers are choosing to go this route and directly connect to power supplies. All across the country, the grid is struggling to keep up with increased power demand from data centers and other energy-intensive industries.

The South Dallas One site will be fully self-sufficient, but developers say they do plan to eventually connect to the grid to give back excess power supplies. Down the road, GridFreeAI plans to incorporate nuclear into their global sites as well.
