Elon Musk’s new supercomputer project will use 150MW of power to operate 100,000 GPUs at the same time.
Also known as the “Gigafactory of Compute” or xAI Colossus, the project by xAI received approval from the Tennessee Valley Authority to use 150MW at the facility. This is a sizable increase from the 8MW with which the facility was originally supplied.
But what does this mean for the community’s power supply? Some are concerned that the local grid may become unstable or that there may be an increase in electricity prices.
There are additional reports claiming Musk plans to double the computing power at xAI, leading to even greater increases in power demand down the road.
