Dominion Energy is seeking approval from Virginia’s State Corporation Commission for a 1GW natural gas plant.
The plant would add needed capacity to a strained grid in light of the recent uptick in data center power demand.
The project plans to add capacity to the existing Chesterfield Power Station. Known as the Chesterfield Energy Reliability Center (CERC), the project will include four gas-powered simple cycle turbines. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 if the project is approved.
