Data Centers Pull Up to 12% of US Energy Demand by 2028

By 2028, data centers are expected to make up between 6.7 – 12% of America’s total energy demand.

How do we deal with such incredible growth? PRAGMA’s new report, “AI’s Power Problem: Grid Strain, Gas Solutions, and Investor Strategies”, does a great job of breaking down the problem and providing solutions.

The main point? Data demand is skyrocketing and we need access to more electricity now.

In the immediate future, natural gas still remains the best bridge option for dispatchable, scalable, and available energy today.

According to McKinsey, $1.3 trillion worth of investments in AI infrastructure will be made by 2030. Some of the deals we already see taking shape include brownfield redevelopments, mobile power-as-a-serve deployments, partnerships with local utilities, and collocated behind-the-meter supplies.

Can we get the power we need in time? If not, we run the risk of power shortages across the country. Not to mention falling behind in the race for global AI authority.
