Is Saudi Arabia set up to become one of the world’s AI leaders?
According to Aramco CEO Amin Nasser, Saudi Arabia’s cheap and available energy supplies will help the country dominate when it comes to data centers and AI. The nation has significant natural gas and renewable resources, as well as easy access to land (both key for a successful AI industry).
Aramco, which is the world’s largest oil company, announced that they will acquire a large minority stake in Humain, a recently launched artificial intelligence company. Humain is majority owned by PIF, Saudi Arabia sovereign wealth fund.
According to Humain CEO Tareq Amin, Saudi Arabia is aiming to be a top authority in the AI space, likely third behind the U.S. and China. To help power Humain’s servers (as well as meet growing global demand), Aramco is boosting their natural gas supplies by 60% by 2030.
