Renewable energy developer energyRe has signed an agreement allowing Google to purchase Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) from 600 MW of new solar and solar-plus-storage projects.
The projects are located in South Carolina. This partnership supports Google’s goal of having net-zero carbon emissions across its operations and value chain by 2030.
Google already has a previous agreement with energyRe. That brings the pair’s total clean energy capacity added to the grid to over 1 GWac.
Google and other tech companies are becoming more and more involved with energy generation to support growing demand from industries like AI, while also supporting sustainability goals.
