Google is building a $4 billion data center in Arkansas, slated to be one of the largest investments the state has ever seen.
Located in West Memphis, the campus will be powered by Entergy through a mix of solar and existing generation.
Google will invest in Cypress Solar, a new 600 MW solar power and 350 MW battery storage facility being built specifically to support the new data center campus. This is the first time Google is investing in the actual construction of a solar farm, whereas previously they only engaged in PPAs.
The new campus is expected to be operational in the next two years, potentially providing hundreds of permanent jobs. Eventually, it may be able to support up to five hyperscale data centers.
According to Google, they will be covering all energy costs of the project. They will also commit $25 million to an Energy Impact Fund to help increase energy efficiency in the surrounding area.
