Germany’s RWE Investing $19.6B in U.S. Energy

German energy giant RWE is investing $19.6 billion in the United States over the next 6 years (about half of its almost $40 billion global investment).

The company is planning 9 GW of new capacity, including gas peakers, wind, solar, and batteries at scale.

The policy matters. RWE had put U.S. investment decisions on hold due to tariff uncertainty and technology debates. CEO Markus Krebber credits last year’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act with bringing back clarity.

RWE looked at the U.S. market, weighed the policy environment, and decided to deploy half their global investment budget here. That’s a signal to every other international player watching from the sidelines.

Data center customers with insatiable demand are driving the need for reliability today. Peakers that can ramp in minutes. Batteries that can shift solar into evening.
