Blackstone recently acquired the Potomac Energy Center in Virginia for $1 billion.
This deal shows the growing link between energy infrastructure and the booming data center industry. The 774-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant in Loudoun County is located near several data centers.
Data centers are energy-intensive, and their rapid expansion in Virginia—one of the largest data center markets in the world—requires a stable and substantial power supply. Northern Virginia is home to 13% of all reported data center operational capacity globally and 25% of capacity in the Americas.
Deals like this are showing growing investor interest in reliable power supplies in close proximity to data centers.
