Occidental Makes Plans to Acquire Carbon Engineering

Occidental just announced its intention to acquire Carbon Engineering, a leader in direct air capture (DAC) technology, for $1.1 billion. The acquisition is slated to close by the end of the year. 

Occidental and Carbon Engineering have been partners since 2019, driving tons of innovation in the DAC space. This acquisition can be seen as a continuation of that work, providing Occidental with a huge opportunity to offer real, global solutions for carbon removal. 

DAC offers a great solution for hard-to-abate emissions – think things like heavy industry and aviation. While we wait for decarbonization technologies to catch up in these sectors, carbon removal is a necessity. 

In fact, some estimates show that we may need to remove as much as 10 GIGATONS of carbon every single year to keep us inline with climate targets. 

This merger is a great step toward reaching that daunting figure. Congrats to Occidental CEO Vicki Hollub on this great achievement!

KeyState Secures Funding Through $925M ARCH2 Hydrogen Grant

KeyState has secured substantial funding through the US Department of Energy’s ARCH2 $925 million grant. The Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub (ARCH2) is one of seven hubs nationwide to receive funding through Biden’s $7 billion H2 Hubs Initiative.  As a Principal Project of ARCH2, this is a big win for KeyState. Their approach is set to redefine industry standards by delivering ultra low carbon intensity hydrogen and ammonia at market-ready costs.  KeyState’s work highlights the importance of developing viable, cost-effective solutions in the hydrogen sector. By aligning with the broader goals of the H2 Hubs Initiative, they are contributing significantly towards achieving a cleaner, hydrogen-fueled economy.

EnergyX Secures $50M in Series B Funding for Lithium Tech

We hosted EnergyX CEO Teague Egan on the Energy Superheroes podcast a while back, where he explained how his company is developing groundbreaking energy storage and lithium extraction technologies.  This funding round was led by forward-thinking investors who clearly see the immense potential in sustainable energy solutions. This includes General Motors, Elohim Partners, and IMM Investment Global. Spearmint Energy Gets $92 Million Tax Equity Financing for Texas-Based Energy Storage

Spearmint Energy just secured $92 million in tax equity financing for an ambitious battery energy storage project. The financing will push the development of Revolution, a 150 MW, 2-hour battery energy storage project that will be part of Texas’ ERCOT market. Funds were provided by Greenprint Capital, LLC.  This project highlights increasing investor confidence in renewable energy ventures. It’s a clear signal that the transition to clean, reliable energy is not just a trend, but a robust, financially sound decision.
